The Soufrire, nicknamed the “old lady”, is an active volcano located on Guadeloupe, in the national park with the same name, in the south of the island of Basse Terre. The municipality of Basse Terre, chief town of the overseas department, is about ten kilometres to the southwest and the Chutes du Carbetare on its east flank. It is the only active volcano of the island, currently in a resting state from eruption.

The Soufrire is part of a volcanic group including the volcanoes Carmichal, the Nez Cass, the chelle, the Citerne and the Madeleine. It is one of nine active volcanoes of the Lesser Antilles.
