HORSE RACING (GARRISON SAVANNAH) Bridgetown The illustrious thoroughbred Garrison Savannah,ridden by Mark Pitman at the end of the 19th century, made horse riding a royal sport in Barbados. A racetrack has been named after him and attracts the leading punters of thoroughbreds. From January to April, from May to August and from October to December, numerous races are held on the island. Visitors can attend the races throughout the year, to bet or to simply share a great time with family. The Barbados Golf Cup, which has taken place every year since 1982, is a prestigious horse race in the county of St Michael which attracts the best horses from the Caribbean, the United States and Canada.
