La Désirade is an island situated to the east of Grand Terre, and is also a commune (municipality) in its own right of the same name, which includes the islands of Petite Terre.

Calm and simplicity characterise this tabular rock quite different to the other islands of the archipelago. Nothing seems to disturb the tranquil atmosphere that prevails on the island, or modify the authenticity and the warm welcome by its inhabitants.

11 km long and 2 km wide, it has magnificent white sand beaches protected by long coral reefs that will delight swimmers and divers.

Only the southern coast is inhabited. La Désirade offers surprisingly diverse vegetation. Beautiful and interesting animal colonies of endangered species can also be found: iguanas, agouties, Paille-en-queues (Phaethon), etc.
