A little history...

The island was formerly called Malliouhana "Arrowhead" by the Arawak Indians who grew cotton, cassava, sweet potato and corn.

They left many relics dating back to the year 600 of our era, such as petroglyphs at the bottom of a cave called the "Fountain" and remains of some forty villages.

In 1493, the island was discovered by Christopher Columbus who named Anguilla, probably due to its elongated shape.

In 1650, it was colonized by the English, mostly pirates, making a den.

April 1st, 1982, Anguilla became independent, by adopting a constitution which makes a separate British territory, and adheres to the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States.
