The Soufrière, nicknamed the “old lady”, is an active volcano located on Guadeloupe, in the national park with the same name, in the south of the island of Basse Terre. The municipality of Basse Terre, chief town of the overseas department, is about ten kilometres to the southwest and the Chutes du Carbetare on its east flank. It is the only active volcano of the island, currently in a resting state from eruption.

The Soufrière is part of a volcanic group including the volcanoes Carmichaël,  the Nez Cassé, the Échelle, the Citerne and the Madeleine.   It is one of nine active volcanoes of the Lesser Antilles.
