Dominica

Location: in Portsmouth.

Portsmouth, the island's second-largest city, is located on Prince Rupert Bay, in the north-west of the island of Dominica.
A major anchorage, its port welcomed Christopher Columbus on his 4th expedition. Destined to become the capital of Dominica , its destiny was overturned by epidemics and wars.
To relive Portsmouth's glorious past, tours of the city are available: the ruins of Fort Shirley, the Indian River, and the filming locations for scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3.

Location: in the south-central part of the island.

Boiling Lake is one of Dominica's must-see attractions, accessible only on foot after an intense 6-7 hour round-trip hike. This demanding excursion, with a significant altitude difference, is rewarded by an exceptional course and site.
The second largest boiling lake in the world and the only one of its kind, Boiling Lake is a flooded fumarole located in the "Valley of Desolation" region. With a width of 60 metres and a depth as yet unknown, the lake is enveloped in clouds of steam, resembling a cauldron filled with bubbling water in shades of blue and grey, heated by magma beneath the surrounding rocks.

This magnificent black sand beach, with its clear waters, is situated in the north of the island. All along Hampstead Beach, you'll discover a superb coconut plantation.

This white sand beach is a real delight for children. The sea is pleasant and calm. Ideal for snorkeling, you'll find some of the softest sand on the island.
You'll also find fishermen who are happy to lend a hand with nets and fish.

Location: located in Roseau

Built in the late 19th century by a French family, then taken over by the Shillingford family, the Shillingford distillery is considered the best producer of the cane juice needed to make rum on the island of Dominica.
It is the largest "dark rum" distillery on the island. The rum produced is commonly called "Macoucherie", and is made from the estate's own sugar cane. Three types of rum - "Macoucherie White", "Red" and "Spiced", also known as "Bois Bandé" - have proven to be powerful aphrodisiacs for men.
On site, you can also see a replica of the oldest water mills in the Caribbean, used to extract sugarcane juice. Discover the flavours of Dominica !

Location: near Trafalgar.

East of the picturesque village of Trafalgar, in the Roseau Valley, lies Dominica 's most visited waterfall: "Trafalgar Falls".
This site, with its extraordinary views over the dense rainforest and mountainous landscape, offers the spectacle of twin waterfalls: the larger (38m) is called "the father" and the smaller (23m) is called "the mother". It's possible to swim in the natural pool that forms between the rocks at the foot of the smaller "mother" waterfall, but it's advisable to take care on the many slippery rocks when accessing it.
An invigorating soak to get back into shape!

Just a stone's throw from Morne Trois Pitons National Park lies the must-see village of Wotten Waven.
In the heart of the rainforest, Wotten Waven is undoubtedly the "Sulfur Spa Capital", with no fewer than six natural sites offering sulfur water spas.
These natural sulfur water pools are likened to the island's lush vegetation. The water, naturally heated by the sulfur that bubbles up from the earth's core, is renowned for its beneficial effects on the body. You can also enjoy natural mud scrubs and massages.
The island's wild nature and volcanic terrain make it the ideal place for a relaxing break.

Just 5 minutes off the road between Canefield and Castle Bruce, nestled in the heart of a lush rainforest, Emerald Pool is a crystal-clear pool into which a 12m-high waterfall falls.
Along the way, you may see Agouti (a rabbit-sized rodent) and small possums.
This is one of Dominica's most popular nature sites. You'll be amazed by this spectacular setting!

Location: Located on the volcano island of Dominica

The "Morne Trois Pitons" is the national park on the island of Dominica, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Nestled in 6880 hectares of lush land, the "Morne Trois Pitons" features 3 peaks rising to 1350m above sea level. It is the highest point in the park, which includes 5 volcanoes, Boiling Lake, 3 freshwater lakes, hot springs and 50 fumaroles. This is the park with the richest biodiversity in the Lesser Antilles of the Caribbean.
Located 13km from Roseau, hiking is possible. It takes 6 hours round-trip to reach the summit. Accompanied by a guide, you'll climb a rock face, walk through dense forest and steep terrain.
A very challenging 7km route, requiring good physical condition. When you reach the top, a spectacular panoramic view of the region awaits you. This site is simply fabulous!
